    Jordanian Banknotes:

Careful examination of mutilated Jordanian banknotes presented for reimbursement will be checked for authenticity.

Mutilated or damaged banknotes, may be exchanged upon request by the Central Bank of Jordan under the following conditions after completing the Mutilated Notes Claim form by the claimant :

  • If the banknote is not fragmented and contains the same two serial numbers regardless of its size.
  • If the banknote is not fragmented and one of the serial numbers is fully legible provided that the banknote size is at least 70% of its original size.
  • If the banknote is presented in two different fragments with different legible serial numbers but form together one full banknote, provided that the two serial numbers are complete.
  • If the banknote is presented in three or more fragments and contains at least four digits of the same serial number provided that the banknote size is at least 70% of its original size and that all parts of the banknote are integrated and belong to the same banknote .
  • Excluded from the previous cases are the banknotes that have been intentionally fragmented and restored in an artistic or deceitful way, where such will be referred to the reimbursement committee to take the appropriate decision .

If none of the previous cases is applicable on the mutilated banknotes presented for  reimbursement , a reimburse application should be filled and presented to the  Settlements division to be considered by a reimbursement committee that consists of five senior-level staff members of the CBJ . This committee will then take the appropriate decision based on clear and constant basis which may require  in some cases , like fire for example , supporting the application with official documents; a civil defense fire report for instance.

It is also to be noted that  all old Jordanian banknotes issued by CBJ and actually withdrawn from circulation can be exchanged directly on the CBJ tellers provided that the banknotes are genuine and not separated and restored in an artistic or deceitful way.

   Jordanian Coins:

If the coins presented to be exchanged are bi metallic, only the inner part that contains the portrait and denomination will be exchanged while the outer part will be rejected if presented alone.
