On August 8th, 2022, the Central Bank of Jordan, represented by Dr. Adel Sharkas, the Governor of the Bank, signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Center for Cyber Security, represented by its President, Engineer Bassam Al-Maharma, with the aim of establishing a cooperative relationship between the two institutions to enhance the cybersecurity system at the level of the Kingdom and the financial and banking sector in particular. In his speech, Dr. Adel Sharkas, the Governor of the Central Bank, pointed out that the rapid and significant technological development in information technology and digital payment systems has led to the emergence of cyber risks and challenges that are among the most important obstacles that may hinder various sectors, especially the financial and banking sector, from operating at full efficiency. The Central Bank has worked since the beginning of 2020 to establish a unit for responding to cyber incidents for the financial and banking sector (FinCERT) in cooperation with the private sector to enhance the cybersecurity system for the financial and banking sector, and to enhance its readiness and ability to face and respond to cyber risks.
